One Person, One Record: Creating a Seamless Connection for Patients

MidMichigan Community Health Services is moving to a single electronic medical record (EMR) system that will connect all of its services to MidMichigan Health. The new system will enable each patient to have one comprehensive medical record shared across all of the MidMichigan Community Health Services and MidMichigan Health facilities who deliver their care. The project will also bring all services onto the same platform for registration, scheduling and billing.

“The new EMR will bring our system onto the same software as MidMichigan Health,” said Jim Raschke, chief executive officer, MidMichigan Community Health Services. “This will allow for easier access for patients, more communication options and less questions as all of the patients’ health records will be housed in one system across our sites and MidMichigan’s subsidiary locations.”

MidMichigan Community Health Services has signed a contract with Epic Systems Corp., a privately owned healthcare software company based in Verona, Wisc., to provide the clinical, administrative and billing software. The new system will result in faster, more accurate communication and streamlined processes for safer, higher-quality patient care.

MidMichigan leaders emphasize that this is not just a software project, but rather a complete transformation in the way patient care is delivered.

“Although we’re partnering with MidMichigan Health to improve collaboration through record sharing, MidMichigan Community Health Services will remain an independent and locally-based federally qualified health center,” continued Raschke. “This is just one more way that we can make it easier for our patients to access high-quality care.”

EMR project team members have already completed multiple trainings in the new system. MidMichigan states that the system will be fully operational at its offices as of Monday, May 3, 2021. At that time, patients will transition to using Epic for their MyMidMichigan accounts, which they use to communicate electronically with their providers, view their medical records and manage appointments and prescriptions.
