Local Partnership Brings Patients More Resources, Access to Care
A new logo unveiled this week for MidMichigan Community Health Services reflects a deeper relationship with Michigan Medicine, the academic medical center of the University of Michigan, as well as a commitment by both organizations to providing quality health care in northern Michigan.
MidMichigan Community Health Services, an affiliate of MidMichigan Health, is a federally-qualified health center (FQHC) based in Houghton Lake, Mich. The center provides primary and specialty health care, with a particular emphasis on access for the underserved.
“What this means is that our patients can have confidence that their medical care is now connected to a larger network of resources designed to maintain and restore health,” said Jim Raschke, executive director, MidMichigan Community Health Services. “Four years ago our partner MidMichigan Health affiliated with Michigan Medicine. That partnership also extends many new benefits to our patients, such as expanded access to specialists, telemedicine visits and expedited care when patients need to be seen downstate.”
During the affiliation period, MidMichigan Community Health Services has demonstrated performance in areas such as population health, clinical quality and patient satisfaction. As a result, Michigan Medicine has extended its iconic block M to MidMichigan Community Health Services locations.
Residents will begin seeing the new logo on signs, literature and the organization’s website over the coming weeks.
“The partnership between MidMichigan and the Michigan Medicine is intended to expand access, quality, and the level of care provided for patients. We see that as a natural fit with our long-standing commitment to our communities and our mission to provide access and affordable care for all,” said Raschke. “We are still run by a local volunteer board of directors and we focus on preventive health care, health education, counseling and health promotion.”
MidMichigan Community Health Services has five locations including MidMichigan Health Park – Houghton Lake, MidMichigan Urgent Care – Houghton Lake, MidMichigan Medical Offices – Roscommon, MidMichigan Medical Offices – Beaverton, as well as a location within the Community Mental Health for Central Michigan facility in Midland.
MidMichigan Community Health Services also partners with schools in Houghton Lake and Roscommon to provide school-based health centers. With state funding, the centers work to improve the health of students 10-21 years of age and reach out to provide services to medically underserved children.
In addition, a school nurse is also provided by Michigan Community Health Services in the Beaverton and Gladwin schools. With the nursing staff onsite, they can refer patients to the Outreach Department. What’s more, they are able to offer a medical care discount in these locations, as well as at the My Community Dental Center in the Roscommon office. The Medical Care Discount can be applied to any patient who qualifies based on income. The discount also works in MidMichigan Community Health Services Pharmacy.
