Biography

Robert McMorrow, D.O., is fellowship trained in addiction medicine. He sees patients at the Substance Use Disorder Program at MidMichigan Health Park - Houghton Lake, providing medication assisted therapy (MAT) and other supporting treatment options for individuals who are recovering from addiction to opioids and other substances.

Philosophy of Care

“I have relatives and friends who are in recovery, and I see a huge need for proper treatment for the disease of addiction in our community,” said Dr. McMorrow. “That’s what prompted me to pursue additional training in this specialty and to open a clinic here in Northern Michigan.”

“In our program, we use evidence-based medicine to help patients achieve and maintain recovery. We now understand that addiction is a chronic disease process like hypertension or diabetes and should be managed with the same philosophy. It is a biological, psychological, social and spiritual disease and should be treated as such. Understanding the medical model of addiction and how to use MAT in an appropriate setting helps us provide proper treatment and support for our patients.”

“I strive to create an honest and stigma-free relationship with my patients where we work together to combat their addiction and create the best environment for them to maintain recovery.”

The most satisfying aspect my work is working with my patients on a daily basis in recovery and helping in all aspects of the disease.”

“We maintain a stigma-free office setting with a staff that is well versed in the disease of addiction and treatment. We also work closely with behavioral health resources such as counseling, group therapy and psychiatry, and we provide links to treatment options for Hepatitis C and HIV.”

Dr. McMorrow is also interested in developing a spoke-and-hub model for substance use disorder facilities and rehabilitation facilities that provide a higher level of care in Northern Michigan. In his free time, he enjoys spending time with family.
