Biography
Rachel Sawaya, M.D., specializes in pediatrics and sees patients at MyMichigan Pediatrics in Midland.
“I love working with kids,” Dr. Sawaya said. “I want to put my little patients and their families at ease. I try to give them a comfortable experience at a time when the child is not feeling well and parents may be nervous and worried.”
Philosophy of Care
Dr. Sawaya works with infants, teenagers and all ages in-between. While each age range has its own challenges, she is deeply committed to caring for each patient individually and supporting the parents as well. “I’m passionate about newborn care — counseling parents of a colicky baby, providing breastfeeding support, and so on,” she said. “As a mother of two, I know how difficult yet wonderful it can be for the family to transition during those first months.”
She is equally passionate about working with tweens and teens. “I take a comprehensive approach to kids’ health, addressing physical as well as social and emotional concerns,” Dr. Sawaya said. “I try to connect one-on-one with teens particularly, to allow time for counseling on making safe choices and to allow questions that they may not feel comfortable asking in front of their parents.”
Dr. Sawaya and her husband, Zachary Sawaya, M.D., are both from Michigan and are delighted to be living in Midland with their two daughters. “We chose this community specifically,” she said. “Midland has a lot to offer to young families and we love being involved.”
As a family, they enjoy biking, walking, swimming, and other outdoor activities.
